چکیده

Pediatric Dentistry – 21:2, 1999 Abnormalities of dentin formation have been classified into two large categories: those that are primarily diseases of the dentin itself and those in which the dentin defect accompanies defects in other tissue systems. For example, the former category contains dentin dysplasia types I and II, dentinogenesis imperfecta types II and III and regional odontodysplasia, while the latter contains osteogenesis imperfecta (dentinogenesis imperfecta type I) and X-linked hypophosphatemic vitamin D-resistant rickets (XLH) 2, Characteristic defects of the dentin are found in each disease. However, there are some cases difficult to diagnose because of a dearth of documented case reports for comparison, some confusion in the published literature or an in-definite manifestation of symptoms. This report presents a rare case of dentin malformation with periapical abscess formation and alveolar bone loss.

بررسی و مقایسه دقت رادیوگرافی های پانورامیک، پری اپیکال و بایت وینگ در تعیین میزان تحلیل استخوان آلوئول در پریودنتیت

Introduction: The height of the alveolar bone, is normally maintained by equilibrium between bone formation and bone resorption, but in periodontal disease more destruction or lack of bone formation will reduce the alveolar bone height. However the radiography is important in diagnosis, treatment plan and detection of quality and quantity of the alveolar bone although the type of radiography is...

Inactivation of Fam20C in Cells Expressing Type I Collagen Causes Periodontal Disease in Mice

BACKGROUND FAM20C is a kinase that phosphorylates secretory proteins. Previous studies have shown that FAM20C plays an essential role in the formation and mineralization of bone, dentin and enamel. The present study analyzed the loss-of-function effects of FAM20C on the health of mouse periodontal tissues. METHODS By crossbreeding 2.3 kb Col 1a1-Cre mice with Fam20Cfl/fl mice, we created 2.3 ...

Col1a1-cre mediated activation of β-catenin leads to aberrant dento-alveolar complex formation

Wnt/β-catenin signaling plays a critical role in bone formation and regeneration. Dentin and cementum share many similarities with bone in their biochemical compositions and biomechanical properties. Whether Wnt/β-catenin signaling is involved in the dento-alveolar complex formation is unknown. To understand the roles of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in the dento-alveolar complex formation, we genera...

Management of Odontogenic Orbital Cellulitis

This work describes a series of patients with odontogenic orbital cellulitis (OOC), focusing on rate of abscess formation, need for surgical intervention, and imaging findings helpful for rapid diagnosis. Review of a current case and 22 patients with OOC from the scientific literature demonstrated periapical lucency as the most commonly (36.4%) reported finding on facial and orbital computerize...

The Role of Chemokines and Cytokines in the Pathogenesis of Periodontal and Periapical Lesions: Current Concepts

The oral cavity is a complex environment that may harbor more than 750 bacterial species. Proper oral hygiene is essential to maintain the equilibrium of microbial community and oral health. The ecological balance can be compromised in inadequate microbial control situations and an oral infection can be evoked. The bacteria can aid in the formation of dental plaque and caries, leading to period...
